Current positions

Dr David North is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in Knee surgery: including sports injuries and arthroplasty surgery.

David obtained his undergraduate medical degree from the University of Cape Town. He then worked at various centres around South Africa, before he completed his specialist Orthopaedic training at the University of Cape Town. This was followed by a fellowship in the Knee Unit at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol, United Kingdom, under the mentorship of Mr Andrew Porteous and Mr Jonathan Eldridge. During his time there he gained expertise in all aspects of knee surgery. This included knee arthroplasty, focusing on total knee, partial knee and revision knee replacements, as well knee injuries, including sports knee ligament injuries and patella instability. Following this David returned to Cape Town where he took up a locum consultant position at Groote Schuur Hospital and Red Cross Children’s Hospital, before he accepted a consultant position at Paarl Provincial Hospital, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

David has presented at several local and international meetings and has had his research published in international journals. He has been involved in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching at the University of Cape Town and Paarl Provincial Hospital.
