Dr Brian Peter Bernstein began his career at the University of Witwatersrand, where he received his medical degree in 1986. He then went on to complete the orthopaedic fellowship of the college of surgeons of S.A. in 1995.

In conjunction with being the Director of the Cape Orthopaedic Trauma Group, Dr Bernstein is the chairman of the South African Orthopaedic Trauma Society. He also serves as the Country Council Chairman for AO Trauma South Africa.

Apart from the management of orthopaedic trauma He has a special interest in limb realignment and reconstruction surgery, and the management of chronic compartment syndrome of the leg.

He is dedicated to the practice and advancement of Orthopaedic Trauma Care and is on the review board for Injury and SAOJ, two prestigious medical journals. Dr Bernstein was the International Program Editor for the AO Resident Education Task Force and conducts faculty presentations worldwide.

Dr Bernstein is also an avid surfer and is currently the Trustee for the SurfShack Outreach Program.
